Lancet71 - no disagreement on the MR2, it was hands down the best cornering car I ever owned (I have no experience with the higher end sports cars, excepting a 1974 Lotus Europa which I wrecked because of my lack of driving ability). I had a 1st gen MR2 (89' supercharged) and a 3rd gen 01. My problem with the MR2 was that it would get me in trouble when I exceeded my driving ability in the corners. With a Miata, I could power slide very safely, with the MR2, when you lost it at the apex in the curve, it was hairy. I'm not a particularly skilled driver, just have always had a fun car to go curve dancing with on weekends. The other problem with the MR2 (especially the 3rd gen) was luggage capacity. I had more than one conversation with a lady about the fact that the make-up kit/luggage wasn't an option for weekend trips (and forget about golf clubs) - it became an issue - clubs or luggage . For a really skilled driver, the MR2 would beat out the Miata, but for an average dummy like me (with no experience in high dollar sports cars) the Miata gave me a lot of smiles per mile. JMHO.
